Ubuntu is much much faster than windows. I was a Windows 7 user, after trying Ubuntu... It is awesome. Very good performance. But the only problem I found is the theme. A bad dark theme. And finally I got it, the Windows 7 theme. After applying that theme my Ubuntu looks exactly like Windows 7. Here the link to download the theme and further details of it. Sorry to tell you you that it works only in Ubuntu less than 11.04. May be a new version is coming for it..
